Introduction to Xinjiang Petroleum Geology

¡¡¡¡Founded in 1980, Xinjiang Petroleum Geology is sponsored by Xinjiang Petroleum Society, and jointly sponsored by Xinjiang Oilfield Company, Tarim Oilfield Company, Tuha Oilfield Company of PetroChina and Northwest Oilfield Company of Sinopec, with the co-sponsors of Qinghai Oilfield Company, Yumen Oilfield Company and Xibu Drilling Engineering Company of PetroChina. The journal has extensive communications and exchanges with petroleum industry-related universities, colleges, research institutes, other journals and publishers in China.

¡¡¡¡Xinjiang Petroleum Geology has many columns such as Oil and Gas Exploration, Reservoir Engineering, Application of Technology, Discussions, Review and Oil and Gas Geology Abroad etc. The journal has been included in CA (USA), AJ (Russia), JST (Japan), A Guide of the Core Journal of Chian (Beijing University), Chinese Science Citation Database (CSCD), Chinese Core Journal of Science and Technology for many years. Meanwhile the journal is included in the 3 largest China¡¯s full-text databases --CNKI, Wanfang Data and VIP Information. It ranked in the top 100 journals of 3rd China National Periodical Awards in 2005 and has won the Xinjiang Periodical Awards for 8 straight times.

¡¡¡¡Karamay oilfield, the first large oilfield discovered in 1950¡¯s in China is dominated by conglomerate reservoirs. Regarding this, Xinjiang Petroleum Geology has published large amounts of papers and articles on the genesis, structural mode and development laws of conglomerate reservoirs, which has opened the beginning of the studies on conglomerate reservoirs and attracted more and more attention in petroleum industry.

¡¡¡¡In 1980¡¯s, volcanic reservoir (e.g. District 1,6 and 7 in Karamay oilfield) was first discovered and developed in Xinjiang, China. Then Xinjiang Petroleum Geology published many papers on the genesis, reservoirs features and development laws of volcanic reservoirs, taking a leading position in China¡¯s petroleum journals.

¡¡¡¡The diversity of the papers issued on Xinjiang Petroleum Geology has far-reaching influences on the discovery of oilfields. For example, its published papers on the research of low-permeability reservoirs have significant impacts on the discovery of Changqing oilfield; the articles on the study of deep oil and gas generation have some impacts on the discovery of Tarim basin; papers on the study of low-resistivity oilfield give deep enlightenment to each oilfield in China.

¡¡¡¡The ¡°Accumulation controlling theory¡± refers to the mechanism what could control the oil and gas accumulation. The related theories reported by Xinjiang Petroleum Geology include ¡°Source controlling theory¡±, ¡°Fault controlling theory¡±, ¡°Beam controlling theory¡±, ¡° Sedimentary facies controlling theory¡± and ¡°Pressure distribution controlling theory¡±, which enriches the fields of petroleum geology.

¡¡¡¡Xinjiang Petroleum Geology pays attention to oil and gas genesis mechanism and has published many papers on inorganic origin of oil and gas which could be less seen in other petroleum journals, providing references for the researchers on oil and gas origin.

¡¡¡¡Xinjiang Petroleum Geology pays attention to the new areas of petroleum exploration in China and has published many papers on petroliferous basins in Aba area of northwestern Sichuan(especially in Mao¡¯ergai area ) and Tibet, some of which have become the first work of successive energy regions.

¡¡¡¡Xinjiang Petroleum Geology encourages open and objective discussion of technical and professional subjects in its publications. Many famous professors and scholars (e.g. Li Qingzhong, Kang Yuzhu, Li Desheng, Ma Zongjin, Jia Chengzao, Zhang Jinglian, Gu Zhanqian, Luo Zhili, An Zuoxiang, Li Chuanliang, Dou Hong¡¯en, Chen Yuanqian and Yu Qitai et al.) have contributed their papers to the journal and taken part in the discussions and disputes on oil and gas origin, China¡¯s geological structure, reservoir engineering and oilfield development index prediction, which activates the academic atmosphere in petroleum industry and promotes the deepening of people¡¯s understanding.

¡¡¡¡Xinjiang Petroleum Geology has published many articles about the methods of oilfield development index prediction, which pushes the advancement of the methods and attracts more and more attention of researchers.
